Every year as soon as school starts back up we always receive several inquiries from parents of students recommended for expulsion. This can be for matters involving alcohol, weapons, drugs, computer policy violations, or really for any other matter the school administrators decide.  We’ve represented over 100 area students in school discipline and expulsion hearings.

We often times find that the administrator who recommended expulsion did so because they thought that they themselves would be in trouble if they didn’t. This can be the result of a zero tolerance policy, or because some other parent(s) complained about the situation.

If your child is facing an expulsion we offer free consultations to help you decide if legal help would be appropriate. When we’re retained we can use an investigator to try to interview potential witnesses, request advance copies of witness statements from the school, appear at the formal expulsion hearing, cross-examine any witnesses, and most importantly act as an advocate for your child.

In some situations it’s pretty clear what happened. In other situations not so much. Either way, there is usually not an opportunity to appeal a school expulsion hearing into the court, so it’s important to try to get the best outcome within the school system itself.
